One of the biggest hurdles for a family living with autism is going on a family vacation. The overstimulating nature of this experience can serve as a stressor for those families simply trying to have fun in a new environment.

For this reason, we have partnered with Champion Autism Network (CAN) to help ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all of our guests and their families at Grand Palms Resort. Our main goal is to provide exceptional vacation experiences for EVERYONE.

“We are excited to partner with CAN and look forward to the opportunity to create an even more exceptional vacation experience for our autistic guests and their families,” states Andy Wolfe, Grand Palms Resort's General Manager.

Ways that Grand Palms Resort supports CAN:

  • CAN is working with us to provide training and resources for our teams.

  • Managers and guest facing employees are attending training that helps identify what someone with autism is going through and how best we can help.

  • We've worked with CAN to create a Safety Plan with designated "Safe Zones" around the Resort.

The Town of Surfside Beach was named the first certified autism-friendly destination in the world! Surfside Beach is the birthplace of this autism-friendly travel initiative, CAN, which now has expanded worldwide. Champion Autism Network works with local businesses such as resorts, restaurants, attractions and services to include discounts to Autism Travel Card members. These businesses also have the opportunity to expand their autism awareness with training and certifications.
