Celebrate our amazing state with us on Carolina Day, with fun events on June 27 & 28, at Fort Moultrie! Come learn how our palmetto tree shaped South Carolina history.



Key Points

  • Fort Moultrie hosts Carolina Day events at the end of each June to commemorate the Battle of Sullivan's Island.

  • Activities at the fort will include historical stations and weapons demonstrations.

  • All events are free.

  • Historians in period clothing will portray both Patriot and British soldiers and civilians to help visitors understand and learn about life in 1776.

  • Grand Palms Resort is located two hours from Fort Moultrie.


What is Carolina Day?

Carolina Day celebrates the annual commemoration of the Battle of Sullivan's Island, which occurred on June 28, 1776.


Fort Moultrie hosts Carolina Day events annually on the weekend closest to June 28. This year marks the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Sullivan's Island.

Just a picturesque two-hour drive down the coast from Grand Palms Resort, Fort Moultrie National Historical Park offers easy access by land, and is close to historic downtown Charleston.
