My Experience
In the months leading up to my internship at Grand Palms Resort, all I heard about was this pirate show. I was intrigued by all the talk, and the experience did not disappoint. As a group of interns, we traveled together to Pirate’s Voyage (a Dolly Parton Company). As our Manager demonstrated, costumes are welcome.
The line to get in was quite intimidating as it wrapped around the front of the building, but we moved quickly. Helpful employees greeted us and directed us to our seats as we made our way into the dining room. Our waitress was happy to refill drinks, take photos, and answer any questions we had about the event.
As I made myself comfortable, two massive pirate ships came into focus. Surrounded by water, with bird’s nest platforms between them, they provided a detailed backdrop that added to the theme of the event. It truly felt like we were removed from the hustle and bustle of Myrtle Beach and dropped onto the deck of a pirate’s ship.
The lights went down, and the show started with tropical birds flying overhead. Pirates rose out of the water, and flew down from the ceiling—flipping and twisting and demonstrating incredible acrobatic ability. There were mermaids, seals, ghost pirates, and more. I don’t want to give too much away… but as the plot thickened, forbidden romance blossomed, and the consequences involved the entire audience’s participation in a competition against each other!
Pirate’s Voyage provided a night full of laughter, suspense, and excitement. I left with my voice hoarse from cheering and yelling the entire time. Some of the other interns even got to participate in show and helped lead our team to victory. Overall, Pirate’s Voyage comes highly recommended by the Grand Palms Resort intern team.

What You Can Expect
Pirate’s Voyage is less than a 30-minute drive from the Resort, so be prepared to leave early if you want to get there on time.
The show is great for people of all ages. Kids will be delighted with the excitement, and adults will enjoy the food and the show.
The show is popular, and the line to get in was long, but the employees at Pirate’s Voyage were prepared for that. They moved people quickly through and we were in our seats in no time.
Your party will have a photo taken of you as you first walk in. A printed or digital copy of the photo is available for purchase at the end of the night.
Throughout the duration of the show, food is provided one course at a time. Come hungry-there is a lot to eat. Read the full menu here.
Beverages of all kinds (including alcoholic beverages) are available for purchase before the show. You can get a refill during the show from your waiter or waitress.
You will walk out through the gift shop, so if you or your kids want a souvenir, it is available for purchase.
