What is the Grand Strand?
The Grand Strand is a 60 mile stretch of beautiful, white sandy beaches that runs along the South Carolina coast. The Grand Strand follows the coastline from Little River, NC, down to Georgetown's Winyah Bay, with Myrtle Beach being the most well known city at its center. The nickname “The Grand Strand” was coined by writer Claude Dunnagan as a title for a newspaper column in 1949.
